Smart Grid 101
During his tenure as a trainer for the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Mr. Golden trained over a thousand individuals on the fundamentals of the internet. And in 1992, before most people had ever even heard of the internet, Mr. Golden authored a publication titled, "The Incomplete Guide to the Internet". In Smart Grid 101, Mr. Golden once again introduces people to technology that will reshape the world we live in.
Smart Grid 101 is a vendor-neutral survey course about the smart grid. As the smart grid industry continues to receive increasing amounts of attention from the mainstream media, politicians, and Wall Street, trying to understand the multitude of components and capabilities of the smart grid becomes increasingly difficult. Smart Grid 101 demystifies the smart grid and breaks it down into clear, understandable concepts. Participants will gain a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the smart grid and how the various elements relate to each other. Subject matter areas include:
- Renewable energy (solar, wind, etc. )
- Smart Meters
- Demand Response
- Plug-in Vehicles
- Energy Efficiency in the Home & Business
- Basic Distribution Management
- Home Area Networks
- Utility Communications Networks
Smart Grid 201
For individuals already familiar with the core concepts of the smart grid, Smart Grid 201 provides the next level of detail. Participants will gain an understanding of how the various components of the smart grid affect the utility, its customers, and the environment. Topics include:
- AMI Meters & Networks
- Cybersecurity
- Standards
- Resource Correlation
- Interoperability
- Distribution Automation
- Applicability to the Carbon Market
Brown Bag Seminars
Brown Bag Seminars typically take place at lunchtime and last about an hour. There are six seminars on specific elements of the Smart Grid and one overview:
- An Overview of the Smart Grid
- Energy Efficiency in the Home and Business
- Renewable Energy Sources Explained
- Plug-in Electric Vehicles and Their Impact on the Electrical Grid
- Residential Energy Management
- Demand Response Explained
- Introduction to Energy Storage and the Electrical Grid
Brown Bag Seminars are appropriate for people who have little or no knowledge of the Smart Grid, and for those who may be familiar with one area but want to better understand others. For example, people who know solar power may want to understand how solar and electric vehicles relate to each other.
